Discover Family Fun at Coolangatta's Golden Beaches – A Local Mum's Guide

The Challenge of Finding the Perfect Family Beach

Finding the perfect family holiday destination can be a challenge, especially when looking for a place that's both child-friendly and relaxing for adults. Families often end up at crowded, windswept beaches that lack the amenities and space needed for a truly enjoyable day out.

Coolangatta: Your Ideal Family Holiday Spot

Welcome to Coolangatta, your ideal family holiday spot on the Gold Coast! Nestled near four spectacular beaches—Kirra, Coolangatta, Greenmount, and Rainbow Bay—our cute little town boasts beautiful coastal stretches that are protected from harsh winds by their unique positioning. Each beach offers ample space, making those overcrowded beach days (like further up the Gold Coast non-existent.

Meet Your Local Beach Day Expert

As a mum of two and the owner of a bustling toy store right in the heart of Coolangatta, I’ve explored every inch of our coastline and can confidently say that Coolangatta provides the perfect mix of sun, sand, and sea for families. During the warmer months, our beaches can transform into serene lagoons, thanks to the protective sandbars that create calm, shallow waters ideal for children. These lagoons are perfect for paddling and spotting the array of fish, offering a safe and enchanting environment for little ones. It's our absolute favourite when the Lagoons appear, I'm sure to take a floaty, so Mum and Dad can laze about while the kids happily swim and splash in the calmer waters.

The Best Beaches for Families on the Gold Coast

No matter where you stay in our town, a pristine beach is always just a short walk away. Plus, our magnificent beach cycle and walking path connect all four beaches.

At Kirra Beach, the gentle waves are perfect for the little ones to splash around safely under the sun. Coolangatta Beach is a treasure trove for those looking to build sandcastles or indulge in a beachside picnic. Greenmount Beach offers a scenic walking trail with spectacular views, ideal for family photos and nature spotting. Bearded Dragons line the walk-way and kids get excited spotting all the shapes and sizes as they troll along. Lastly, Rainbow Bay is the go-to for families who love to surf or watch surfers in action early morning, through to the perfect summer evenings. Rainbow Bay and Snapper Rocks also have some amazing Rock Pools on the low tide. They are the perfect Crab Hunting spots.

For those who might not be as fond of the beach, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy. Wander through the local shops, stroll the beautiful walkways, or take on the Big D Bar walking loop for some stunning Tweed River views.
